The Blue Badge - Your assurance of quality

The Blue Badge worn by professional tourist guides.

The Blue Badge was established over 50 years ago to ensure the highest standards of quality and professionalism in tour guiding in Britain.

It is your assurance of quality.

The Blue Badge is awarded and administered in the South West of England by the Institute of Tourist Guiding in association with South West Tourism (SWT), the Tourist Board serving the West Country.

Our members take pride in constantly updating their knowledge, skills and linguistic abilities so that visitors to the South West of England will enjoy to the full the region's rich and varied heritage.

All our active members are covered by £3 million public liability insurance.

If all this sounds a bit dry, please do remember that it is a Blue Badge Guide's job to entertain as well as inform!

Use a Blue Badge Guide to show your group

the delights of South West England !

The Association of
West Country Tourist Guides is ...

... a non-profit making, professional association representing the interests of Blue Badge Guides and Tour Managers who live and/or are fully qualified to work in the far South West of England. Amongst our members we have a wide variety of linguistic capabilities, a huge range of personal interests and other specialist skills.

As a non-commercial organisation, we cannot act as a booking agency but we shall be most happy to put you in touch with a Blue Badge guide to meet your needs.

The Institute of Tourist Guiding

Founded in April 2002, the ITG is the professional institution for tourist guides. As such it is primarily a standards body, particularly in respect of guide training. It has now taken over responsibility from the regional tourist boards for the awarding of the Blue Badge and the annual re-registration of guides, but membership is not compulsory. The Institute's website now has a searchable list of its full members, but the search criteria are limited and the list excludes those who have not opted to pay for an entry.
