The Association of
West Country
Tourist Guides
The professional association for
Blue Badge Tourist Guides and Tour Managers
in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset
The Blue Badge worn by professional tourist guides.
The Blue Badge was established over 50 years ago to ensure the highest standards of quality and professionalism in tour guiding in Britain.
It is your assurance of quality.
The Blue Badge is awarded and administered in the South West of England by the Institute of Tourist Guiding in association with South West Tourism (SWT), the Tourist Board serving the West Country.
Our members take pride in constantly updating their knowledge, skills and linguistic abilities so that visitors to the South West of England will enjoy to the full the region's rich and varied heritage.
All our active members are covered by £3 million public liability insurance.
If all this sounds a bit dry, please do remember that it is a Blue Badge Guide's job to entertain as well as inform!

The AWCTG is affiliated to the Guild of Registered Tourist Guides which represents the interests of guides at a national level. Through this affiliation, AWCTG members are afforded a variety of important support facilities including public liability insurance, debt collection and benevolent fund.

The Institute of Tourist Guiding
Founded in April 2002, the ITG is the professional institution for tourist guides. As such it is primarily a standards body, particularly in respect of guide training. It has now taken over responsibility from the regional tourist boards for the awarding of the Blue Badge and the annual re-registration of guides, but membership is not compulsory. The Institute's website now has a searchable list of its full members, but the search criteria are limited and the list excludes those who have not opted to pay for an entry.
